General Info

Tyler and the rest of the team at Lighthearted Humans are a content creation production nonprofit and aim to help HUBBike with their mission of

“We make cycling better through education, action and events. More cycling means healthier, happier, more connected communities. We’re leading the way in making cycling an attractive choice for everyone. HUB Cycling is a charitable non-profit organization, established in 1998 (originally named the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition) to improve cycling conditions in Metro Vancouver. Since then, we've grown a lot! We've impacted infrastructure, educated thousands of children and adults and motivated thousands more.”

Hopefully we can work together to create any of the following: high quality educational and promotional video, and possibly photographs or graphics of, and relating to the upcoming First Nations Reserve Clean Up.

Summary

On 6/24/19, Tracy & Tyler spoke about potential projects and these project proposals are a more concrete follow up to that conversation. Any ideas/suggestions/input encouraged!

Project 1

A social media marketing campaign for “Bike the night”

Idea:

An instagram based marketing campaign for followers to be reminded about the event.

A series of 10 short films which work together on instagram stories, and can be pinned to the main instagram page which feature cyclists/people/city ofvancouver. The media will cover the time span from day-night (as the videos/photos get darker, the event gets closer) and lead up to the bike the night logo at the end reassuring everyone that HUB Cycling are the ones who host the event, and everyone ready to cycle! This can feature 10 short films to be posted on IG stories daily as well as the individual videos which can be posted to the main account. They will start out slow then move to increasing in speed/cuts/editing/music in a fashion that builds anticipation and excitement. It could also be possible to use a voiceover/interview from a passionate employee that talks about the passion of cycling, the health, the environmental impact etc in a way that builds with the music. (+2 hrs for interview)

Needs:

(~5 hour shoot day, 5-10 pm)

1) Project lead/ assistant

2) 1-3 cyclists to be featured in different scenarios (minimal acting/headshots required)

3) Locations (visually great locations for our riders to cycle through)

4) possibly interview location for actor/voice over

Deliverables:

1) A series of 10 independent short (15seconds) videos ot be displayed on IG (both vertical and horizontal formatting.

2) A 150 second long film that can go on youtube/facebook/web which combines all the videos on a cohesive way.

3) 5-10 photographs which feature the same day-night shot style

Cost: $200-$250 (at social media content rate)

Project 2

A mission statement marketing video

Idea:

A general marketing video to be featured on the Hub Cycling youtube landing page (plays automatically for new visitors) This video can also be displayed on facebook/ web

Featuring the three pillars of your organization :

1) Education . - 2) Events . - 3) Advocacy

This video might feature the managing heads, or employees of each department in in interview scenario explaining what brought them to where they are now, describing the branch of the org they work in, and why it’s important for individuals and the strength of the community as a whole. These interview/storytelling shots will then be combined with b-roll of cycling, and relevant shots of each scenario. Currently your mission statement is scattered among many different visual areas, and even in the brochure (which our designers could redesign for ~$100 if desired :) the three areas are listed, but not the most clear. It might be helpful to have your youtube page and a section on your website display a professional video of exactly what you do. This video could also be used in things like email signatures, links for other orgs to use etc.

Needs:

(1-2 day shoot)

1) Project lead/ assistant

2) Locations for each pillar including:

- School/Public education scenario

- Event with lots of cyclists (I will be filming a part of the Gaston Grand Prix on the 10th of July which could be used)

-Public forum/court hearing/construction site which can be used when talking about public works.

NOTE: stock footage is a viable option for some of these shot (should we not be able to create a public forum scenario etc) and these costs ($50-$150/clip) will be passed along

3) 1-3 actors/cyclists to possibly be featured in each of the three scenarios depending on locations chosen

4) List of Other Locations (visually great locations for riders to cycle through, public works that have been finished colorful bike lanes/parts of the city etc)

5) Office Space /others for interviews (A bike shop, or BG with bikes/tools etc would be best for at least one interview, or possibly all three) (Construction site) (Public hearing space)

Deliverables:

1) A well done 2-5 minute brand story explaining your mission.

2) 5-10 b-roll clips possibly with logo to be used for general marketing material.

3) 10-20 photographs for general marketing

Cost: $400-$600 depending on days/ Locations/ Scheduling etc.

Project 3

Bike the night recap video

Possibility of an event recap video which we can talk about moving forward depending on scheduling . . .

(1 day shoot)

Idea 1) Strictly event recap

Idea 2) Event recap + Branded storytelling through interviews

Deliverables:

-Event recap video

-10-20 short branded clips for general marketing

10-20 photos for general marketing

Estimated Cost $ 600-800

Project 4

Free project creation

Tracy and I also discussed the possibility of a free project creation should the others not work out, and for this scenario, I would likely create a video similar to this one you already have: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tp47J2WPD5w . Instead of using photographs though, I would use great looking video clips and the titles would likely be free forming around the same concepts as in the second project idea of a general marketing video. I would come to the office/workplace for just an hour or two to film some general shots. HUB Cycling would not have much creative control, but would be included in the editing and deliverable process should there be any misrepresentations. Should it turn out that I don’t have the time to complete this sort of edit, it may turn into delivering just individual b-roll clips/ branded photos depending on scenario.

Needs:

Would be nice to have a list of relevant locations

-projects you have done

-good looking locations for filming

-bike heavy locations

Deliverables:

-1 minute marketing video for web/social

-Possibly photos/ individual clips.

Cost: $0.00

Project Possibilities

Listed below are a few different styles of projects we create. These will help give a better idea of the project’s theme.

Video

At Lighthearted Humans, our filmmakers have many talents and can produce various forms of video which is great in a social media marketing driven world.

Some take more planning and time than others, some are better suited for a website and some are for instagram, it all depends on what the situation calls for.

Style 1 - Style 2 - Style 3

Text only video (Takes time, but doesn’t require being “on location”) : (random explainer video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OG3V_DY2hYM

Filming, Heavy Editing & Animations (good animations take a lot of time) : (Vox Video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qx2WFpNTPs

Quality video, Good Editing, no animations (Adventure Camp) https://youtu.be/yZlsrn8orpc

Side Note

BikeHUB’s video contest winner produced a great animated video, if you want to do more educational animations like that, I recommend hiring whoever made this video because they’re great at it.

Photography

At Lighthearted Humans, all our photographers have the ability and equipment to do various photographic shoots.

We mainly focus on the following styles as they cover a lot of ground.

Style 1

Styled Photography : To give viewers the idea of what your brand represents. The main advantage here is that we can create styled sets or scenarios with precisely what you would like your brand to represent. I would also place portrait photography here as the best portraits need good lighting, framing, model cooperation etc. The main downside is that it takes a while to organize these things, most often lighting is required, and backgrounds , props, and backdrops are sometimes needed, cooperation between models, assistants etc. Shots often need time and planning. Styled photography is great for rebranding a whole website, or in using to pitch a project to future clients, as it is more detail oriented and cleaned up than documentary photography.

Style 2

Documentary Photography: An experienced photographer can create beautiful images in any scenario and that’s what documentary photography is; telling a story with what is available. The main advantage here is that it’s minimally invasive to the event, and captures what’s actually going on, but can be more involved, think street photography & wedding photography. The main downside would be that the shots may not be website ready for some corporate style sites that require a high quality of professionalism and minimalism in their product pages. Of course, styled photography can also be done on location to a good standard without the need for additional lights, backdrops, and assistants, etc. these types of detail shots do indeed help tell a story, though they may not be the “lead shots” which in documentary photography would be candid shots of the group, people, and the activity as it unfolds. Shots often depend on the event and willingness of the people.

Graphic Design

Our Designers at Lighthearted Humans love creating visual art that captivates and promotes great people, places, and things.

We focus mainly on two styles of graphic content, one is more statement and education driven, and the other is fun and lighthearted.

Style 2

Graphic based, colorful, fun.

Style 1

Text based, interesting, educational.

Services

We understand that not all nonprofits can afford the high rates of Hollywood-style production companies, so luckily we’re not that!

We are a nonprofit, and were recently founded so we’re not asking a lot as we build our portfolio, but we will need to stay in business. We mainly provide photography, graphic design, printing, and video production services. In the case of BikeHUB, one - two professional style videos, and a few (10-20) relevant documentary style photos might be a great addition to your website and social media pages. This, in our eyes, would be a big help to your mission of sustainable transportation at BikeHUB.

The videos might be on the topics of

1) A mission video used for marketing BikeHUB

2)An informational, educational video promoting either bike to work week, or bike the night to be released prior to the events.

The Photographs might be vignettes of relevant locations and team members riding, fixing bikes, and cyclists around town

These will cost anywhere from $1000 - $15,000 if you were to look to the freelance video production markets, quality obviously depending on price. Though here at Lighthearted Humans, as a Nonprofit, we also have a mission which is, “Creativity for a Greater Good” so we want to help you do what you do without charging an arm and a leg, though to be clear, we are always aim to deliver content at a quality higher than our associated rates in the freelance market.

Caveats

  • These rates are negotiable depending on quality and style.

  • Combining certain packages can lower rates significantly

  • There is also an opportunity for a reduced cost/free project creation i.e.

a few photographs of an event, or a short title video or your organization,

and while we will have to somehow prioritize our clients, we try to include as many diverse projects as possible

because while our creators need to be paid to continue doing the good things they’re doing,

they also understand that some causes similar to yours are worth some donated and dedicated time and effort.

Conclusion

Hope this helps in refining what a project with us might look like!

As you can see there are plenty of different ways a project can play out, so let’s do some brainstorming and come up with something that works for everyone involved!

Thanks,

-Tyler & the Lighthearted Humans team
