Summary
Leah & Tyler talked on June 26, 2019 about a video project showcasing Lifecycles Partnership with Topsoil in order to install a light footprint, high impact farming solution at Reynolds School on July 3/4. This is the first of what will hopefully be a series of similar projects in their “seed the city campaign” as LifeCycles continues to fulfill their mission in the Victoria/Vancouver area. Topsoil specializes in innovative agriculture installs and methods of this sort and have a unique ability to provide a great system for schools which may need flexibility into the future.
Project
Idea:
The feature video will be 1-3 minutes long and feature the following aspects
-geared towards other schools, grant donors & proposals, inspiring a spreading of similar projects
-feature partnership/s
-feature school & student involvement
-feature the flexibility of the install (raised bed/above ground aspects)
-feature build/install (+timelapse)
Potential directions:
1) Short interview clips that tell a story ( one main driver of story and 2-4 other people to be interviewed)
this form would ideally have a single person doing a sit down interview for 20-45 minutes while on location (at a lunch break or after we stop work for the day) and the other 2-6 people who are featured I will pull away from work for 2-5 minutes throughout the day for comments. It would be nice if 2 others were involved in the project creation for specific comments.
2) Voice over only - we have someone write a script and conduct a voice over which we can put together with cinematic footage of the farm install that inspires hope for a bright future (will require several takes in a quiet location to get just right)
3) A title only style video which would be like something you might see on facebook highlighting a project install. This method has the ultimate flexibility in storytelling, though is limiting in connectivity to viewers.
Needs for project:
1)Assistant/lead/go to person for organizing on day of should I have any questions requests etc. which will likely be easy and quick to accommodate.
2)Lead person to interview when we have time
3)2-6 other people willing to be interviewed ( I usually just ask on day of after building some connections + others involved)
4) signatures from parents allowing children to be on film (I think only if they’re talking/interviewed, in the background should be fine sometimes I get signature then and there sometimes I send a follow up email upon project completion, either way.)
5) potential props, logos, branding items etc.
Deliverables:
1) 1-3 minute film
2) 5-10 video clips (incl. timelapse) possibly with titles/branding/logos which can be used in future branidng
3) 5-10 photographs for web/social
Estimated Cost: $450 (Discounted form 2 day video production rate)
Alternative projects can also be considered and below are the general capabilities of our production.

Project Vision
(General Possibilities)
Video
At Lighthearted Humans, our filmmakers have many talents and can produce various forms of video which is great in a social media marketing driven world.
Some take more planning and time than others, some are better suited for a website and some are for instagram, it all depends on what the situation calls for.
Style 1 (Text only)
Text only video (Takes time, but doesn’t require being “on location”) : (random explainer video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OG3V_DY2hYM
Style 2 (Animations included)
Filming, Heavy Editing & Animations (good animations take a lot of time) : (Vox Video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qx2WFpNTPs
Style 3 (Standard Video Style)
Quality video, Good Editing, no animations (Adventure Camp) https://youtu.be/yZlsrn8orpc
Photography
At Lighthearted Humans, all our photographers have the ability and equipment to do various photographic shoots.
We mainly focus on the following styles as they cover a lot of ground.
Style 1
Styled Photography :
To give viewers the idea of what your brand represents. The main advantage here is that we can create styled sets or scenarios with precisely what you would like your brand to represent. I would also place portrait photography here as the best portraits need good lighting, framing, model cooperation etc. The main downside is that it takes a while to organize these things, sometimes backgrounds and backdrops are needed, and cooperation between models, assistants etc. Shots . often need time and planning. Styled photography is great for rebranding a whole website, or in using to pitch a project to future clients, as it is more detail oriented and cleaned up than documentary photography.
Style 2
Documentary Photography:
An experienced photographer can create beautiful images in any scenario and that’s what documentary photography is; telling a story with what is available. The main advantage here is that it’s minimally invasive to the event, and captures what’s actually going on, but can be more involved, think street photography & wedding photography. The main downside would be that the shots may not be website ready for some corporate style sites that require a high quality of professionalism and minimalism in their product pages. Of course, styled photography can also be done on location to a good standard without the need for additional lights, backdrops, and assistants, etc. these types of detail shots do indeed help tell a story, though they may not be the “lead shots” which in documentary photography would be candid shots of the group, people, and the activity as it unfolds. Shots often depend on the event and willingness of the people.
Graphic Design
Our Designers at Lighthearted Humans love creating visual art that captivates and promotes great people, places, and things.
We focus mainly on two styles of graphic content, one is more statement and education driven, and the other is fun and lighthearted.
Style 2
Graphic based, colorful, fun.
Style 1
Text based, interesting, educational.
Services
We understand that not all nonprofits can afford the high rates of Hollywood-style production companies, so luckily we’re not that!
We are a nonprofit, and were recently founded so we’re not asking a lot as we build our portfolio, but we will need to stay in business. We mainly provide photography, graphic design, printing, and video production services. This would cost anywhere from $1000 - $15,000 if you were to look to the freelance video production markets, quality obviously depending on price. Though here at Lighthearted Humans, as a Nonprofit, we also have a mission which is, “Creativity for a Greater Good” so we want to help you do what you do without charging an arm and a leg, though to be clear, we are always aim to deliver content at a quality higher than our associated rates in the freelance market.

Caveats
These rates are negotiable depending on quality and style.
Combining certain packages can lower rates significantly
There is also an opportunity for a reduced cost/free project creation i.e.
a few photographs of an event, or a short title video or your organization,
and while we will have to somehow prioritize our clients, we try to include as many diverse projects as possible
because while our creators need to be paid to continue doing the good things they’re doing,
they also understand that some causes similar to yours are worth some donated and dedicated time and effort.
Conclusion
Hope this helps in refining what a project with us might look like!
As you can see there are plenty of different ways a project can play out, so let’s do some brainstorming and come up with something that works for everyone involved!
Thanks,
-Tyler & the Lighthearted Humans team
